A living cultural Museum...
The elevation of the Country ranges from 60m to the highest point on Earth, Mt. Everest at 8,848 metres
Kathmandu is situated in the heart of the Himalaya Mountains and has a long history. Considered by some to be among the most beautiful cities in the world, the earliest known inscription in the Kathmandu valley is dated 15 AD. The oldest firmly dated building in the earthquake-prone valley is almost 1992 years old. We base part of our expeditions in this Valley to get a flavour of this truly inspiring city and surroundings.
Our project site at Junbesi schoolhouse – one of the first schools established by Sir Edmund Hilary – today has more than 250 pupils attending. Participants will spend time in Junbesi village where they will be involved with upgrading the schoolhouse building, repairing the existing walls as well as painting and general restoration of the school. Junbesi is located at an altitude of 2675m in the Solukhumbu region of Nepal. This pretty Sherpa Village is set amongst beautiful surroundings with Numbur peak (6959m) towering above.
On completion of the project work, we will take a fully supported camping based trek into the Everest region to Namche Bazaar and Thyangboche. This will be an unforgettable journey into arguably the most stunning mountain range in the world, with a rare and intimate insight into the Sherpa culture.
Alternatively, we will undertake the demanding high altitude Annapurna trek, trekking over the world’s highest pass of Thorong La (5416m) and the Kang La (5322m) pass. This trip has an optional finish to attempt to summit Khatongi Kang (6422m) depending on how each individual is feeling.
There are many adventurous activities to splice into your expedition including a day of mountain biking through the Kathmandu Valley. This is an arduous and testing day but one which brings great rewards with breath-taking views and scenery. A great sense of achievement follow.
